Summary

Thanks to the possibility they offers to refrigerate from a heat source – recovered heat for instance, sorption cooling systems appear as a very attractive solution in terms of energy saving. However, the number of installations based on the absorption or adsorption principle remains low. The AFF’s Orientation Committee has tried to find explanations to this paradoxical situation. The invited experts provided their views leading the committee to consider the question from several point of views, upstream (R&D) and downstream (equipment provided by manufacturers) and also on the latest developments for innovating applications. The article has synthetized the AFF’s Orientation Committee thought and highlights some innovative applications. In conclusion, advantages and drawbacks of sorption cooling systems have been pointed out. Possible actions that can help promote their use have been identified.
