Stirling refrigeration systems as an alternative to Perkins-Evans-cycles.

Summary

In Stirling refrigerators helium can be used as working gas. To find out if the Stirling-cycle can be a realistic alternative to the Perkins-Evans-cycle a simulation program for the computation of the thermodynamics of Stirling refrigerators was developed. The program was validated by comparing calculated results with the results of measurements carried out at two different machines. Differences between the heat rejection temperature and the temperature of the supplied cold of more than 55 K show that the Stirling refrigerator can compete with single-stage cold vapour compression system.
