Storage of Early Juan and Spring Bright nectarine fruit under controlled atmosphere.

Author(s) : LUCHSINGER L., HUENCHUÑIR D., ESCALONA V., et al.

Summary

The objective of the study was to evaluate the use of controlled atmosphere (CA) to control chilling injury in nectarine. Fruit were harvested at an export maturity stage and stored up to 42 days at 0 °C and 95% relative humidity, in controlled atmosphere (17% CO2 and 5% O2) and normal air as control. CA storage was effective in reducing fruit metabolism and in some degree chilling injury symptoms. Woolliness was the major problem found in Spring Bright nectarines and no chilling damage was observed for Early Juan fruit.
