Storage trials of strawberries in controlled atmospheres.

Summary

Storage trials were carried out on the cultivars Korona and Bounty at the Agricultural University of Norway during 1994-95. Fruit was stored at 1-2 deg C, in the following CO2-O2 atmospheres: 10-15%, 10-20% and 20.8-0.03% (air), respectively. Weight loss was low but there was a significantly higher weight loss in 1995 than in 1994. The fruits were firmer when stored under controlled-atmosphere conditions compared with storage in air. There was little variation in total acidity between cultivars or treatments, and there were no differences in the soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio. A taste panel found no difference in controlled-atmosphere stored and air-stored fruit.
