Stratum ventilation: a solution to elevated room temperatures.
Number: pap. 942

Summary
Guidelines for various elevated room temperatures in summer have been issued by several governments in East Asia. Present total volume air distribution methods are not feasible in providing thermal neutrality for occupants under warm conditions. To accommodate the new conditions and provide efficient air distribution performance, stratum ventilation was proposed for small to medium rooms, which will ensure young air age in the breathing zone, reverse temperature gradient in the occupied zone and efficient energy use. Because of higher ventilation effectiveness and collisions due to higher horizontal velocity, the droplets concentration decays more quickly. The paper is to discuss recent developments on stratum ventilation. The performance of stratum ventilation with regard to anti-airborne infection performance, thermal comfort and energy efficiency will be in the focus of the discussion.
