Studies show how air conditioning equipment efficiency has increased.
Type of article: Periodical article
Summary
The worldwide installed cooling capacity of unitary products is reported to be 1,450 million kilowatts. From 1981 through 1995, the efficiency of unitary heat pumps had a 42.5% leap in seasonal energy efficiency rating. The average efficiency of centrifugal chillers has increased over the past 20 years by 34%, from a COP of 4.24 to 5.67. For unitary products, there still appears to be some room for added efficiency improvements, provided that consumers are willing to pay considerably higher initial costs for higher efficiency products.
