Study for the Commission of the European Communities on energy efficiency standards for domestic refrigeration appliances.

Author(s) : TRINES R. L.

Summary

A study was undertaken to define energy efficiency standards for domestic refrigeration appliances. The study includes an analysis of the present market in the EC, the selection of a testing procedure, three different scenarios for short-term standards (average, and 10 or 15% energy savings) and the setting of long-term standards leading to an almost 50% savings compared to the current average. Overall energy and emissions savings until 2015 were calculated. Some possibilities for administrative procedures for ensuring compliance with the mandatory standards are proposed.
