Study of the simultaneous heat and mass transfer during drying of liquid materials in conical spouted beds.

Summary

First, the convective transport coefficients were defined. The main hypothesis used was that evaporation occurs uniformly at the surface of all particles in the bed. These coefficients were determined with experimental data obtained during drying operations of three types of materials. As inert particles glass spheres and polyethylene beads were used. The variables analysed were the feed mass rate of liquid material; the mass rate of spouting gas; the inlet gas temperature; the static bed height; and the average particle diameter. Results and correlations are discussed as well as accuracy of measurements.
