Summary

BINARY AND TITANIUM-MAGNESIUM ALLOYED NIOBIUM-TIN WIRES HAVE BEEN PRODUCED BY THE INTERNAL TIN DIFFUSION PROCESS, STARTING WITH COLD HYDROSTATIC EXTRUSION. THESE WIRES EXHIBIT A REGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF TIN CORES AND NIOBIUM FILAMENTS THROUGH THE WHOLE CROSS-SECTION AREA. THE ANALYSIS WAS COMPLETED BY THE SEM DETERMINATION OF THE A15 GRAIN SIZE WITH DIFFERENT ADDITIVES AND THE MEASUREMENT OF THE TIN CONCENTRATION PROFILES. IT IS FOUND THAT THE SIMULTANEOUS ADDITION OF TITANIUM AND MAGNESIUM TO THE TIN FACILITATES NIOBIUM-TIN GRAIN GROWTH AND LEADS TO FINER GRAINS.
