Summary

SUPERCOOLING NUCLEATION POINTS OF GERMINATED CARROT SEEDS WERE DETERMINED UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS, AND THE VIABILITY OF THE SEEDS WAS EXAMINED AT DIFFERENT TIMES AFTER PASSING THE SUPERCOOLING NUCLEANT POINT. THE SUPERCOOLING NUCLEATION POINTS VARIED FROM 270.1 TO 267.5 K (-2.9 TO -5.5 DEG C). SEEDS, WHICH WERE TAKEN FROM 293 TO 294 K (20 TO 21 DEG C) AND WHICH WERE EXPOSED TO 261 K (-12 DEG C), HAD THE HIGHEST SUPERCOOLING NUCLEATION POINT.SEEDS WHICH WERE KEPT AT 274 K (1 DEG C) FOR 3, 6 OR 24 HOURS BEFORE FREEZING HAD A SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER SUPERCOOLING NUCLEATION POINT.
