SUPERINSULATION FOR EXTERNAL PRESSURE LOAD.

Author(s) : GERHOLD J., LEHMANN W.

Summary

AT THE MOMENT, WOUND SUPERINSULANT MATERIALS CREATE THERMAL LEAKAGES 2 TO 5 TIMES GREATER THAN THE PERFORMANCE ANTICIPATED UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS. NEVERTHELESS, FOR PRESSURES HIGHER THAN 0.02 MEGAPASCALS THE SUPERIORITY OF THIS MATERIAL, IN RELATION TO CONVENTIONAL SUPERINSULANTS, HAS NOW BEEN PROVEN. BECAUSE OF ITS REVERSIBLE THERMAL PROPERTIES, ITS USAGE IS PARTICULARLY INTERESTING FOR CRYOGENIC DUCTS OR SUPERCONDUCTING CABLES. THE SUPERINSULANT WHICH IS APPLIED IS MECHANICALLY MORE RESISTANT AND IS DESIGNED FOR HIGH SUPERFICIAL PRESSURES AND IT ALSO HAS REVERSIBLE THERMAL PROPERTIES. ITS USE IS RESTRICTED TO FLAT OR SLIGHTLY CURVED SURFACES.
