System modelling and parameter effects on design and performance of ammonia based STELF thermochemical transformer.

Summary

The thermal performance of a thermochemical transformer using chemical reactions is modelled and predicted through simulations. The transformer consists of two solid-gas reactors directly coupled via the gaseous phase. A design study is carried out for the system yielding more than 50 deg C of temperature upgrading with useful average power of 2 kilowatts for 30 minutes when driven by waste heat source at 170 deg C. A methodology for the static design and dynamic behaviour simulation is discussed and established. An attempt is also made to investigate important parameters and their independent effects.
