Summary
In Germany in 1996 there were about 10.8 million cubic meters of chilling and freezing capacity, including about 6 million cubic meters of commercial storage capacity, in which food is stored on behalf of third parties. About 4.8 million cubic meters are used for food-storage on the cold store owner's own behalf. Developments in improving the cold chain are presented.
