Techniques designed to reduce ammonia leaks.

Techniques d'atténuation de fuites d'ammoniac.

Author(s) : RIBORDY P.

Summary

The human body readily absorbs small quantities of ammonia, since ammonia is also produced in the body. However, ammonia rapidly becomes unbearable to breathe, even at concentrations below those that are harmful to health. The distinctive pungent odour of ammonia acts as an early-warning signal. This is in fact an advantage, since it enables rapid action to be taken to reduce leakage. In general terms, four types of leak can occur in refrigerating plant using ammonia: two on the low-pressure side and two on the high-pressure side.
