The following aspects of ammonia are examined: refrigerating systems, disregarding other applications; risk evaluation based on both the consequences and the probability or frequency of an accident; emission from the refrigeration system, arising from system defects, spillages and ammonia vapour in a building; and the need for qualified personnel to design, manufacture, install, operate and assess refrigeration systems.
