Summary

RESEARCH ON LOW-PRESSURE STORAGE OF CUT FLOWERS IN POLYETHYLENE-FILM PACKAGING IS DESCRIBED. DURING THE EXPERIMENT THE VACUUM PUMP TURNED ON AND OFF AUTOMATICALLY. PRESSURE VARIED ACCORDING TO THE KIND OF FLOWER. BETWEEN 2.5 AND 5 M3 OF AIR, AT 278-290 K (5-17 DEG C) AND 35-63% RELATIVE HUMIDITY, WAS INTRODUCED EACH HOUR. IT WAS FOUND THAT STORING THE FLOWERS WITH OR WITHOUT NUTRITIONAL SOLUTIONS PRODUCED SUITABLE TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY CONDITIONS. THE POLYETHYLENE PACKAGING WAS FOUND TO SOFTEN THE EFFECTS OF SHARP FLUCTUATIONS IN TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY. M. C.
