AN ACCOUNTIS GIVEN ON THE HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARD TEST METHODS ON THE GUARDED HOT PLATE AND HEAT FLOWMETER FOR THE DETERMINATION OF STEADY STATE THERMAL TRANSMISSION PROPERTIES ON INSULATING MATERIALS, STARTING FROM 1960 UP TO THE DOCUMENTS DRAFTED WITHIN ISO/TC 163 AND BALLOTED IN 1983. THE TWO ISO DOCUMENTS TOOK INTO ACCOUNT BOTH THE NEEDS OF THE APPARATUS DESIGNERS AND THOSE OF THE OPERATORS.
