Summary
EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATIONS ON THE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF FREEZING VARIOUS MAXILLOFACIAL TISSUES SUCH AS SKIN, BLOOD VESSELS, NERVES, CARTILAGES AND BONE. FREEZING AT SUBZERO TEMPERATURE 93 K (-180 DEG C) INDUCED NECROSIS AND REGENERATION. REGENERATED SKIN SHOWS NO CONTRACTION OF THE SCAR, BUT THE HAIR MAY BE LACKING OR LITTLE. THE ELASTIC FIBRES OF BLOOD VESSELS AFTER FREEZING ARE MORE CRYOTOLERANT. PARALYSIS OF THE FACIAL NERVE OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER FREEZING, BUT THIS DISORDER IS REVERSIBLE AND THE NERVE IS FUNCTIONAL 4-6 WEEKS AFTER FREEZING. AFTER FREEZING, CARTILAGE AND BONE SHOW NO CHANGE IN SHAPE.
