Summary

The Leeds vapour compression circuit applied to air-cooled air conditioners is described in the paper. It uses vertical rifled tubes for both the evaporator and condenser, expanded into louvred fins. It uses a modulating float valve and proportional liquid injection into the compressor suction. Results are reported for air cooled from 27 to 14 deg C and 35 deg C ambient with pure R134a, progressive additions of R32, and charges of R407D and R407C.
