THE COMING REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE.

Author(s) : GILK EY H. T.

Type of article: Article

Summary

DESPITE THE EFFORTS BEING MADE TO PRODUCE CFC ALTERNATIVES AND THE SYSTEMS TO USE THEM, IT IS INEVITABLE WITHIN THE TIME-SCALE AGREED THAT A REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE WILL DEVELOP DURING THE NEXT 8 YEARS. IT IS IMPERATIVE THEREFORE THAT EXISTING REFRIGERANT BE CONSERVED. THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE ADOPTION OF GOOD MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN WHICH ANY SUSPICION OF A REFRIGERANT LEAKAGE IS INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY, AND ALL SERVICE WORK IS CARRIED OUT WITH CAREFUL PUMPING OUT AND RE-USE OF REFRIGERANT. PARTICULAR ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CENTRIFUGAL PLANT PURGE UNITS WHICH MAYWASTE QUANTITIES OF REFRIGERANT IF BADLY DESIGNED OR OPERATED. D.W.H.
