The control of ice-storage systems.

Summary

Simulation techniques were used to evaluate different control strategies for ice-storage systems. The impact of the strategy and the load profile on the selection of chiller and tank sizes was studied. For a full-load strategy, in which the ice-storage tank provides all of the daytime cooling, the total building load and the profile of the building load both affect the required size of the ice-storage tank. In a partial-load strategy, in which the chiller and tank both operate to meet the daytime load, many combinations of chiller capacity and ice-storage tank size are possible.
