Decreasing defrost energy and increasing capacity in harvesting ice makers.

Summary

The energy consumed in defrosting the evaporator plates of harvesting type ice makers is a function of the equipment and also the adhesion strength of the ice to the cold evaporator surface. An investigation was performed to find a method of decreasing ice adhesion to the evaporator plates. One method uses an additive at 1% concentration. The additive allows the ice to release in 50% less time as compared to no additive, increasing the efficiency and the capacity of equipment.
