Summary
Carbon dioxide as a working fluid is used for residential heat pump water heaters, because it has little negative environmental impact and excellent characteristics for heating. A very efficient heat exchanger (gas cooler) was developed by adopting a concentric triple tube (inner double tube for refrigerant and outer single tube for water), and also available is a high performance scroll compressor with high efficiency and high reliability without an accumulator, by optimization of the oil injection rate. As a result, a new heat pump water heater with a COP of 4.20 at normal conditions and operating sound levels of 38 dB, which is one of the most efficient and silent systems in the industry, was developed.
