Summary

As global warming is becoming a critical issue nationwide, people are more concerned with environmentally friendly products. Since COP-3 named HFC (R134a) a global-warming gas, refrigerators with less influence on global warming are being eagerly awaited. Meeting those needs and this trend, Matsushita has developed a non-flon (CFC-free, HCFC-free and HFC-free) refrigerant cooling system that makes it possible to develop a non-flon refrigerator. The authors developed the three following new technologies: a highly efficient cooling system that enabled refrigerators to operate with less volume of refrigerant; highly efficient compressors using a non-flon refrigerant; defrosting heater (double-cylinder glass radiant heater) for non-flon refrigerant.
