THE EFFECTS OF VAPOUR VELOCITY AND TUBE BUNDLE GEOMETRY ON CONDENSATION IN SHELL-SIDE REFRIGERATION CONDENSERS.

Summary

IT IS FREQUENTLY ASSUMED THAT THE CONDENSATION COEFFICIENTON ALL TUBES IN THE BANK IS THE SAME AS THAT ON A SINGLE TUBE WITH ZERO VAPOUR VELOCITY. WHEN < ROW-EFFECT > CORRECTIONS ARE INCLUDED, THE CORRECTION FACTOR IS NORMALLY BASED ON EMPIRICAL DATA FOR A VERTICAL ROW OF HORIZONTAL, PLAIN TUBES WITH ZERO VAPOUR VELOCITY. THIS PAPER SURVEYS RECENT WORK TO DEFINE THE SEPARATE EFFECTS OF CONDENSATE INUNDATION (THE ROW-EFFECT), AND VAPOUR SHEAR. IT EXAMINES HOW THE CORRECTIONS CHANGE WHEN BOTH VAPOUR SHEAR AND INUNDATION EFFECTS ARE PRESENT. THE SURVEY INCLUDES BOTH PLAIN AND INTEGRAL-FIN TUBES. THE KEY ISSUE OF INTEREST IS TO ESTABLISH APPROPRIATE CORRECTION FACTORS FOR SHELL-SIDE REFRIGERANT CONDENSERS.
