Summary

THE AUTHOR PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A COMPARISON OF 2 HOUSE-HEA TING SYSTEMS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT. THE 2 SYSTEMS, AN OIL-FIRED BOILER AND A MONOVALENT ELECTRIC-COMPRESSION HEAT PUMP, ARE ANALYZED BASED ON ELECTRICITY GENERATING CONDITIONS PREVALENT IN AUSTRIA. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE HEAT PUMP SYSTEM HAS A SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER CONTRIBUTION TO THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT EVEN WHEN THE RELEASE OF THE CFC WORKING FLUID IS ACCOUNTED FOR.
