The performance of hydrocarbons in a household refrigerator-freezer.

Author(s) : BASKIN E., PERRY R. B.

Summary

Several compositions of propane-isobutane have been tested in a commercially available household refrigerator-freezer. The charge and capillary tube length have been optimized for R12 and each hydrocarbon composition; no other modifications were made to the refrigerator-freezer. Numerical evaluations show that several composition come near to the performance of R12. Also, experimental evaluation shows that some hydrocarbon composition energy consumption is equal to or less than that of R12 (i.e., 60-40%, 70-30%, and 80-20% by weight of isobutane-propane).
