Summary

For the first time the possibility of using potassium permanganate as an inhibitor (retarder) of steel corrosion in the aqueous solution medium of sodium chloride used as a cooling medium has been proposed. It was found that the inhibiting effect of permanganate depends on its concentration, the alkalinity of the medium and on the mass fraction of CaCl2 in the solution. By varying the ratio of cooling medium constituents, it is possible to reduce the corrosion rate by a factor of almost 3.5. To reduce production costs associated with the use of the inhibitor, economical production is proposed.
