Summary

R502 substitutes for low temperature applications developed by Du Pont de Nemours are presented: two drop-in fluids HP80 and HP81 and a long term refrigerant, HP62. The compositions and properties of these refrigerants are compared to those of R502: exergetic efficiency, impact on environment, miscibility with lubricants, transfer properties, phase change, stability of the composition in case of leakage, compatibility with filters and materials, toxicity, inflammability. The conversion procedures of installations to HP80 and 81 are given along with the outlook for the application of these new refrigerants. J.L.
