Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE STARTING POINT OF SOLIDIFICATION AT SUPERCOOLED CONDITIONS OF AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION. EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON THE FREEZING OF A LARGE NUMBER OF DROPLETS OF AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF SODIUM CHLORIDE. THE RELATION BETWEEN THE CONCENTRATION, THE DEGREE OF SUPERCOOLING, THE COOLING RATE AND THE DIAMETER OF THE LIQUID DROPLETS WAS EXPERIMENTALLY ARRANGED IN AN EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION. OBSERVATION OF THE FREEZING PROCESS REVEALED THAT THE FREEZING RATE DECREASES WITH CONCENTRATION.
