Summary

IN TWO-STAGE AMMONIA REFRIGERATION PLANT WITH CLOSED OR OPEN TYPE INTERCOOLER, WET COMPRESSION AND SLUGGING WILL MOST PROBABLY APPEAR ON THE HIGH STAGE COMPRESSOR. THE SPECIAL DEVICE, CALLED THE THERMOPRESSOR, HAS BEEN APPLIED IN THE USSR FOR DESUPERHEATING THE VAPOUR AFTER THE LOW STAGE COMPRESSOR. THIS DEVICE USES THE POSSIBILITY OF INCREASING THE TOTAL PRESSURE (HEAT COMPRESSION) BY COOLING OF THE VAPOUR FLOW BY MEANS OF INJECTION OF A SPRAY OF LIQUID AMMONIA. WHEN PLACED BETWEEN LOW AND HIGH STAGE COMPRESSORS, THE THERMOPRESSOR WILL REDUCE THE DANGER OF WET COMPRESSION AND SLUGGING, INCREASE THE POWER EFFICIENCY AND SIMPLIFY THE LIQUID SEPARATOR FOR INTERMEDIATE TEMPERATURE IN PUMP CIRCULATION SYSTEM.
