Summary

A RESEARCH PROGRAMME WAS UNDERTAKEN AT THE BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY ON THE USE OF GROUND AS HEAT SOURCE/SINK OR STORAGE LOCATION FOR SOLAR ASSISTED OR SELF-CONTAINED HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS. THE TEST RESULTS ARE GIVEN FOR 5 PATTERNS OF COIL FOR THE PERIOD OF DECEMBER 1978 TO SEPTEMBER 1981 AND THEY ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF A COMPUTER MODEL (GROCS = GROUND COUPLED SYSTEMS) FOR FOUR VALUES OF GROUND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY. THE RESULTS ARE USED FOR EVALUATING THE VALIDITY OF THE MODEL.
