THE USE OF STEADY STATE METHODS IN THE DETERMINATION OF THERMAL PROPERTIES OF SOLIDS.

Author(s) : RORIZ L. F.

Summary

STEADY STATE TEST METHODS FOR THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY DETERMINATION, CAN INTRODUCE DEVIATIONS IN THE NUMERICAL VALUE FROM TEST RESULTS. THIS INACCURACY IS DUE TO MASS TRANSFER WHICH MAY OCCUR IN POROUS MATERIALS. THE AUTHOR SHOWS THAT MASS TRANSFER CANNOT BE NEGLECTED AND THAT, ACCORDING TO TEST CONDITIONS, THE NUMERICAL RESULT OF CONDUCTIVITY MAY BE HIGHER OR LOWER THAN THE ACTUAL VALUE.
