Summary

The thawing of a layered sample due to microwave energy (2.45 GHz) in an oven has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. Based on a model combining the electromagnetic field and the thermal model, it was shown that the variation in the layered configurations and unfrozen layer thickness changed the degree of temperature level within layered samples as well as the thawing rate. This is due to the change in the characteristics of the dielectric properties of phase change materials during the microwave thawing process. The simulated results are in agreement with the experimental ones for the microwave thawing process.
