Summary

DUE TO THE LACK OF RELIABLE PERFORMANCE DATA FOR COOLERS OPERATING IN THE FROSTED CONDITION, THE AUTHORS HAVE CARRIED OUT AN ANALYTICAL INVESTIGATION. A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE DEFROST PROCESS ITSELF AND THE USE OF A NON-DIMENSIONAL VALUE TO DERIVE THE MEAN NET COOLING CAPACITY. DEVELOPED DEFROST THEORIES ARE APPLIED WITH THE VIEW TO OBTAINING AN OPTIMUM SYSTEM. REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE DUTCH STANDARD (NEN 1876) ON THE DEFROSTING OF COOLERS.
