A NEW FORM OF THE THEORETICAL CYCLE FOR A HEAT PUMP WITH VAPOU RCOMPRESSION IS PRESENTED SHOWING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PROPERTIES OF CERTAIN REFRIGERANTS IN THE DRY SATURATED VAPOUR REGION. THE LOSSES DUE TO IRREVERSIBLE PROCESSES ARE EXAMINED.
