Summary
The main objective of the present paper is to calculate theoretically the various performance parameters of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle at different compressor rotational speeds and various evaporator temperatures. The refrigeration cycle investigated is a superheated and sub-cooled one with 15°C superheating and 10°C sub-cooling. The performance parameters to be investigated are the refrigerant mass flow rate, the refrigeration capacity of the evaporator, the consumed compressor power, the condenser duty and the coefficient of performance of the refrigeration cycle. The importance of this work is to save the effort and cost of determining these performance parameters if the experimental method is used instead. The compressor rotational speed is changed from a minimum value of 1350 rpm to a maximum value of 1550 rpm with 50 rpm increments. The evaporator temperature investigated is varied from a low value of –10°C to a high value of 10°C with 5°C increments. The condenser temperature of the refrigeration cycle is kept constant at 40°C. The selected compressor for this study is a Bitzer one (Model4G-20.2) of four cylinders with a volumetric flow rate of 84.5 m3 /h (0.235 m3 /s) at rated rotational speed of 1450 rpm. The obtained results of the present work indicate that the maximum refrigeration capacity of the investigated cycle is 110 kW at compressor rotational speed of 1550 rpm and evaporator temperature of 10°C. On the other hand, the minimum compressor power consumed reached 11.0 kW at rotational speed of 1350 rpm and evaporator temperature of –10°C.
