Summary

This paper presents a detailed analysis on the leakage characteristics of R410A in the swing compressor with no valves. Leakage losses through all clearances have been studied by using the present method. Simulation results show that the leakage loss through the clearances between rotor faces and the head walls of the cylinder becomes the most important one and the second one is the leakage loss through the radial clearance. Additionally, refrigerant mass flow rate is used as an important parameter to verify the accuracy of the theoretical formulas. Calculation results of the theoretical refrigerant mass flow rate are compared with the experimental results and the results are satisfactory. Furthermore, an optimization measure has been provided for the design of the swing compressor with no valves.
