Summary

THE EXPERIMENTALRESULTS CAN BE EXPLAINED ONLY IF IT IS ASSUMED THAT THE MUON FORMS THE DIAMAGNETIC COMPLEX. SPIN INTERACTIONS WITHIN THE COMPLEX LEAD TO EFFICIENT DEPOLARIZATION OF THE MUON SPIN, THE DEPOLARIZATION RATES BEING ALMOST THE SAME FOR PARA-AND ORTHOHYDROGEN. THE DEPOLARIZATION RATE OBSERVED DECREASES WITH INCREASING ROTATIONAL DIFFUSION RATE. BROWNIAN MOVEMENT OF THE SPHERE SHOULD LEAD TO A MARKED DECREASE OF THE DEPOLARIZATION RATE ON TRANSITION THROUGH THE MELTING POINT, AND THIS IS INDEED OBSERVED EXPERIMENTALLY. THE THEORY EXPLAINS ALL THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA AVAILABLE AT PRESENT.
