Summary

The appearance of condensation in the coil is one of the main problems to avoid in an active chilled beam (ACB). In humid climates, due to infiltrations of outside air, and in high occupancy spaces, chilled beams may present the problem of condensation. Through annual thermal simulations carried out with Trnsys, this article shows that the commonly used condensation prevention system can lead to a high number of hours of thermal discomfort. Therefore, it is essential to add to the current thermal models of ACB additional controls to assess the risk of condensation, and carry out the necessary corrective measures. Thus, the main objective of this article is to propose a thermal model of ACB that includes alternative condensation prevention strategies. These strategies will be compared from the point of view of electrical consumption and thermal comfort.
