Thermal conductivity of mixed hydrocarbons at very low density: methane-ethane mixtures.

Summary

The results obtained for transport properties of pure and mixed methane and ethane at atmospheric pressure are analyzed, taking into account the original works and the previous published transport data. The temperature dependence of the transport properties of pure components can be represented satisfactorily. For estimating the transport properties of binary gaseous mixtures a number of correlations reported in the literature are considered. A new simple approximation is obtained. A comparison is made between the experimental results and those calculated for the 50-50% methane-ethane mixture. A reasonable agreement is found.
