Thermal energy management with chemical heat pumps in the food industry.

Gestion de l'énergie thermique dans le secteur agroalimentaire par des pompes à chaleur chimiques.

Summary

This technical-economic study presents the energy savings that can be achieved in a dairy factory by introducing a chemical heat pump into the systems producing thermal energy. The chemical heat pump, activated with the vapour-generated heat from the existing gas boiler, simultaneously supplies refrigeration for food and generates heat to meet part of the hot water or heating demand in the factory. Based on the data available in the literature, the investment break-even time would vary between 1.6 and 5 years.
