THERMAL INERTIA EVALUATION IN POROUS MATERIAL BY MULTISPECTRAL OPTICAL ANALYSIS.

Author(s) : BAGGIO P., et al.

Summary

THE PAPER PROPOSES A TECHNIQUE FOR THE EVALUATION OF MOISTURE CONTENT DISTRIBUTION IN POROUS MATERIALS, BASED ON THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THERMAL INERTIA MEASURED IN DRIED AND MOIST ZONES OF SPECIMENS, BY MEANS OF OPTICAL EQUIPMENTS. THE PROPOSED TECHNIQUE IS ESSENTIALLY BASED ON ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY MEASUREMENTS IN THE VISIBLE AND INFRARED BANDS. THE ADVANTAGES OF THIS OPTICAL TECHNIQUE FOR THE EVALUATION OF THERMAL INERTIA ARE PARTICULARLY APPARENT WHERE A NON-DESTRUCTIVE (NON-INTRUSIVE) METHOD OF TESTING IS REQUIRED, AND WHEN A MAP OF THE THERMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF OBJECTS WITH LARGE DIMENSIONS, THAT CANNOT BE INVESTIGATED IN LABORATORY WITH THE TRADITIONAL PROCEDURES, IS NEEDED.
