PREDICTION OF EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF TWO-PHASE MEDIA (INCLUDING SATURATED SOILS).

Author(s) : GORI F.

Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS A METHOD FOR PREDICTING THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF TWO-PHASE MEDIA WITH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY RATIOS LOWER THAN 40. THE METHOD CAN BE APPLIED TO FROZEN OR UNFROZEN SATURATED SOILS. THE ANALYSIS IS BASED ON THE SOLUTION OF FOURIER'S EQUATION, WITH THE HYPOTHESIS OF PARALLEL HEAT FLOW LINES IN AN ELEMENTARY CELL. THE CONCLUSION IS A COMPARISON BETWEEN THEORETICAL RESULTS AND 114 TESTS ; THE RESULTS OF THE OTHER FOUR METHODS ARE COMPARED TOO. THE MEAN QUADRATIC DEVIATION AND THE MAXIMUM ERROR ARE SMALLER THAN THOSE OF THE OTHER PROCEDURES.
