Summary

The IIR informed its collective associated members from European Union of the launching of a new, more ambitious, Thermie programme, for which the EEC requested the IIR's assistance. Background information is presented on the projects which have received the support of the Community and the role which the programme will play in promoting both new and existing projects. Statistical data is included showing the distribution of projects amongst different modes and technologies. 13 projects are on refrigeration: energy storage at -6 and -10 deg C using hydrated salts in a lager brewery and saving 60% on refrigeration; low temperature thermal recovery in food industry (malting); absorption refrigeration at very low temperatures in the agrofood industry; new modular technology in low and medium powered industrial refrigeration systems; turbocompressor system for use in the liquefaction of nitrogen and oxygen; trigeneration plant for a health complex; mixed steam turbine; thermal storage to improve fish quality; improved energy efficiency of large-scale reciprocating compressor; CHP-unit based on a Stirling motor; pre- and intercooling of a 1-MW turbine in cogeneration with ice storage; low-temperature heat cascade for energy utilisation for absorption refrigeration; exhausting gases depuration and simultaneous cold water production.
