Summary

A REPORTIS MADE ON THE RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS OF VAPOUR PRESSURE, DENSITY, VISCOSITY AND RESULTS OF THERMAL STABILITY TESTS. THE THERMAL STABILITY OF HFIP WAS INVESTIGATED IN DYNAMIC TESTS USING A CLOSED LOOP CIRCUIT. THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION WAS DETERMINED BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY-ANALYSIS OF THE TEST SAMPLES AT AN EXPOSURE TIME OF 300 HOURS IN A TEMPERATURE RANGE OF UP TO 573 K (300 DEG C). THE DECOMPOSITION PROCESS WAS EVALUATED AS A REACTION OF FIRST ORDER AND QUANTITATIVELY EXPRESSED IN THE RESPECTIVE HALF-TIME VALUE. THE TESTS INDICATE A THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF HFIP OVER 523 K (250 DEG C) THAT RUNS INTENSIVELY AT 573 K (HALF-LIFE 42 HOURS) WITH COLOUR CHANGE OF THE SAMPLE TO A DARK GREY COMPOUND AND FORMATION OF A VOLATILE PHASE.
