IIR document

Towards generic tools for managing treatment and storage of fruits and vegetables.

Summary

The authors will specifically attend systems that apply treatment and storage operations. The union of locations, controlling equipment, human operators and activities involved in these processes is addressed as a Treatment and Storage system (TS-system). TS-systems deal with biological materials, for which the physiological development of products, and consequently the quality development, continues during the entire process. TS-systems aim at controlling this quality development, either preserving the initial product quality (storage) or achieving a predefined quality change (treatment). In the planning and control of TS-systems, the mechanisms of quality change have to be accounted for. The paper unifies and extends the results of several of the authors' projects, all supporting the management and control of TS-systems by means of computer software.
