A model for modified atmosphere packaging of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Summary

As a base model, a first order system of equation introduced by Hayakawa et al. (1975) is chosen and as a test product green pepper packed with low density polyethylene films is used. The rate of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide evaluation of green pepper are assumed to be first order polynomials in terms of oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations inside the package. Then the coefficients of these polynomials are determined by a least-squares process using the experimental data produced under different packaging conditions. Thus, model equations for green pepper are established. Comparison of results with experimental data, are good.
