Summary

To develop a trusted product, lots of effort is necessary to repeat experiment works both for product design and validation stage. A transient 1D model can reduce repeated engineering works in the product development stage. This work investigated the mechanism of refrigerant migration characteristics and actuator activation effect on the transient performance of refrigeration systems by using the 1D model. Simulation models for R600a household refrigerators and R744 automobile HVAC systems, using fixed metering devices, are constructed. Since the refrigerant charge amount is critical for the correct analysis of the refrigeration system using fixed metering devices, different slip ratio correlations for the void fraction model are applied. The refrigerant mass amount variation in different components is evaluated both for R600a and R744 systems. Experimental data verification shows that the condensing pressure deviation is improved by 15% for the R600a system’s start-up procedure if considering the slip between the vapor and liquid phase for 1D simulation.
