Summary

On the base of the literature and author's studies, the significance of refrigerating transport and of storage in keeping of plant material high quality is described. Recommended compositions of controlled and modified atmosphere suitable to transport and long-lasting storage of fruits and vegetables are presented. Ways of generating controlled atmosphere, methods of verification of chamber air-tightness and kinds of protection of gas-tight chambers against unexpected pressure changes are described.
